Vincent- A cat story

The stench of death lingers in the air,

Stagnant and heavy in my living room,

I am not angry anymore,

Just want answers from the person I left in his care,

I am imagining my cat as he draws his last breath,

Accidental overdose of something so natural for life

Tipped the bridge to ever after sleep,

I am left with only memories –

You were a good cat,

Gentle cat among many that have crossed my house,

Wiped your paws before you entered,

Left reminders of your hunting prowess strewn throughout the house,

Steadily loyal- you would stalk me as I did my business around the house,

Now my house is silent,

Sadly quiet except for the birds chirping outside by your window perch,

And an empty spot by the couch where you sat.
